Scheduled reports
Send a dashboard by email on a schedule, as images anyone can read without signing in.
A scheduled report sends a dashboard to the people who need it by email, on the schedule you choose. Each graph arrives as an image, so the week's numbers reach a manager, a customer or a mailing list without anyone opening Sentinel.
Setting one up #
- Dashboard — the board to send. Its template variables are set to their defaults.
- Recipients — one or more email addresses. Each recipient gets a message of their own.
- Schedule — daily, weekly on a chosen weekday, or monthly on a day from the 1st to the 28th, at an hour of the day in the time zone you choose.
- Window — the period each report covers: the last day, 7 days or 30 days.
Open Dashboards → Reports and choose Schedule a report. A report needs a dashboard first; create one, or start from a ready-made one, on Dashboards.
How delivery works #
- Each scheduled time is delivered exactly once. A report whose time passes while the service is restarting is sent when it comes back, for up to six hours; older ones are skipped rather than arriving late.
- A delivery that fails is retried, waiting longer each time, up to five attempts.
- Every delivery is kept with its outcome, so the list shows when a report last went out and whether it reached its recipients.
- Send now delivers the report immediately, for checking a new one or sending an extra copy.
Graphs are drawn as images inside the message rather than as attachments or links, so they display in every mail client and need no sign-in to view.
Pausing
Pause a report to stop deliveries without losing its settings, and resume it when you need it again.
Requirements #
Sending email needs an outgoing mail server configured for your deployment. Ask whoever runs your Sentinel deployment if reports are not arriving.
Onward #
What goes into the board is Dashboards. For alerts rather than summaries, use Monitors.
